A Gut Renovation

The McBain Residential Hall consisted of a gut renovation of the entire building in 3 phases of construction. The building is a dormitory building for Columbia University students of 8 floors and a basement.

The project was split into 3 design phases:

Phase 1 - Studying the existing conditions and preparing survey documents, as well as the renovation of the 1st, 7th and 8th floor. The 1st floor consisted in renovation of the lobby, lounge, laundry room, gym and a section of dorms. Environmentally friendly materials including a green wall at the entry of the lobby. In addition to integrating glass to increase visibility and lively atmosphere to the lounge.

Phase 2 - Window replacement and the renovation of floors 4, 5 and 6.

Phase 3 - HVAC system and changes in the floor layout of the 2nd and 3rd floor.
